Scope and Content
"I bequeth my soull to the blessed trinite to our lady senct Mary And to all the blessed compeny of heven" and his burial to be in the chancel of the parish church.. To the mother church of Lincoln 12d..
To every godchild 12d.; to every householder in Barkeford a bushel of malt and 6d..
To sir Thomas Merall' a gown furred with black lamb, a pair of sheets, 2 shirts and part of testator's books. Also 4 horses, 2 carts with the cart gear, plough and plough gear, the wood in the yard and in the close, the lead and the brewing vessel and baking vessel, 3 coffers, the round table, with all things in the Chamber and the Study, also the brass and the pewter and the "falling" [?folding] table in the hall.
To sir Thomas Clarke the best long gown and tippet, also a hat. To sir Robert Croftes 10s. and a pair of sheets. To "every one of myne howseholders" 2s. over and above their wages. To Olyver Meryall a cow bullock, 2 pair of sheets and a coverlet. To Richard Meryall testator's godson a cow bullock. To Thomas Meryall the elder a shod cart, 2 horses, 6 quarters of malt. His feoffees standing seized of 3 ½ acres of land and 3 roods of meadow with the appurtenances in the fields of Barkeford are to allow the said Thomas of Roxston to take the yearly profit of the same to him and his heirs and assigns for ever.
To sir Henry Wylson a pair of sheets, 2 shirts and a gown. To Jone Trigges testator's kinswoman 26s. 8d.. The sum of 26s. 8d.is to be distributed among testator's poor kinsfolk.
To the poor inhabitants of Summerby [ Somerby Leics. or Lincs.] 40s.. To servant Elzabeth a gown and a pair of harden sheets. To Agnes Swetbone a quarter of malt and 3s. 4d.. To Geffray/Jeffray Paulgrave 13s. 4d. and a dun horse with a white mane and a white tail, 10 couples of ewes and lambs and 10 more lambs. To Elzabeth Mosse a cow bullock. To Symon Bannys 6s. 8d..
The residue of goods not bequeathed to sir Thomas Meriall and Thomas Meriall the elder, to be divided between them, and they to be his executors.
If his goods will not fulfil the will, then executors to diminish the legacies as they think best.
