Scope and Content
Soul to God Almighty, his maker and Redeemer, and to the BVM and to all the company in heaven, his body to be buried in the churchyard of All Saints in Tyllysworth.
To wife Johanna 12 quarters of barley, 2 of the best kine, 2 couples of the best sheep, and one cow bullock. To his wife and to Thomas Carter all his hay and wood to find them fire wood and stuff for their cattle. He gives 3s. 4d. towards the repair of Tyllysworth church, and 3s. 4d. towards the repair of Howghton church.
To each godchild 4d.. To the poor men's box 20d. To Thomas Carter 20 quarter of barley to sow his land with, and to him also testator's beans, pease and vetches, and his carts and ploughs with their iron and harness. To Thomas Carter also 4 three-year-old steers "wich were never draven"; three horses (a white, a black and a sorrell).
To Thomas Tomysen 3 quarters of barley. To William Stanbrege of Dunstable, testator's godson, 3 quarters of barley. To his servant John Carter 2 three-year-old steers, and the boy's father to keep then until they are 5 years old. To each of Thomas Carter's children a ewe sheep. To his wife's daughter Margret Carter 2 kine. To his servant Margret Carter 2 quarters of barley, one steer bullock and four yards of good cloth for a petticoat. To his godson Henry Carter 2 steer bullocks. To servant Jone Carter 2 couple of sheep and one cow bullock.
To testator's brother William Burre for his lifetime his feather bed, then it is to go to William's son Robert Burre. Also to William 2 quarters of barley, and testator's best coat with sleeves. To Agnes Reyner 20d..
His eight steers are to be sold at Saint Fremund's day next coming, and £4 of the money is to be used on the highways between Hockelyff and Podell Brege where there is most need.
Executors Robert Boneyon (to whom 6s. 8d.) with Thomas Carter, and the supervisors testator's ghostly father and Thomas Hebbes, to each of whom 3s. 4d..
Residue to wife Jelyan and to Thomas Carter to use for souls of testator and all Christians.
