  • Title
Letter from Thomas Bennett at Woburn to Thomas Wing at Grays Inn, London: "I have yours of the 13 and in reply beg to inform you that the William Rutley of 1755 & 1789 are one & the same person, he having served his apprenticeship to a Carpenter at Woburn but afterwards went to the Public House at Crawley. I trust in so trifling a purchase you will not had [sic] to try further back, at least I have not done so thinking it of no consequence. It would be attended with some difficulty as you are aware how Parish registers of that day were kept. I understood from Mr.Adam that Odell's Annuity was to commence from Lady day Last, but that he was to be allowed to receive the Rents till Midsummer after that, The Duke has. If therefore I hear nothing to the contrary I will at our Christmas Audit receive from the Tenant the Quarters Rent from Midsummer to Michs."
