Office held during the Civil War [mainly as Commissioner of the Great Seal] Henry Grey, 10th Earl of Kent (1594-1651, suc. 1643), born at Burbage; 1642 appointed by Parlt. as 1st Commissioner of Leics. militia; 1643 1st Commissioner of the Great Seal for Parliament; till 1646; 1646 Lord Lieutenant of Beds.; 1645, 1647 Speaker of House of Lords; 1648-9 again Commissioner of the Great Seal. It appears that the following Civil War papers must derive from him.
