Copy letter from Charles Pell Hall (agent on behalf of the Duke of Bedford) to Phillip Jones Whitaker of the Manor House, Bratton, Westbury, Wiltshire… 'I have laid your letter of the 21st ultimo with reference to additional burial ground on behalf of the Trustees & Congregation of the Chenies Baptist Chapel before the Duke of Bedford. His Grace desires me to say that he would be prepared to give a small piece of land for this purpose behind the present Burial Ground, taken off the field occupied by Mr. Darvill, if that would meet their wishes?. I suppose that you will be able to erect a suitable fence which would be necessary? His Grace makes this offer subject to the condition that the ground shall only be used for the interment of residents or property owners in the Parish of Chenies'.
