Letter from S.A.Francis in Norwood Grove, Manitoba [Canada] to Arthur Henry Peer: "I thought I would write you a few lines today as I have a few minutes to spare. Will you please excuse the pencil as I am writing this outside after just having had my dinner. In the first place I want to thank you for your beautiful present and also for the kind wishes which accompanied it, I shall treasure it very highly indeed and it will always take me back to the pleasant walks we had together on the old sod. The wedding passed off most successfully. We had a glorious day and the church was crowded with friends who came to see and throw rice. We kept it rather quiet, there were 24 of us sat down to the breakfast after which we successfully faced the camera and I dare say you will see one of the results the next time you make a trip to Houghton. Everyone was most kind to us and we have received some very lovely presents in fact almost enough to furnish our little nest. The fellows in the office gave me a beautiful oak and plate glass china cabinet. The firm a magnificent oak reclining chair upholstered in leather. The congregation an oak reclining chair. The choir a combined china dinner and tea service of over 100 pieces. the Sunday School children a magnificent silver mounted fruit basket. the Rector Mr.Shannon a lovely rosewood music cabinet and many others too numerous to mention. Mrs.Francis likes the country so much and it seems to suit her as she is feeling so well. She did enjoy the journey across the water so too as she suffered little or no effect from the dreaded "mal de mer" which is more than I can say when I came across. I have to leave the house at 7 o'clock in the morning and do not get back until 7 in the evening as it is too far to get home to dinner. So I tell the wife that she has a good time and can do just as she pleases all day long. We are having some very heavy storms this Summer in fact it has been raining on and off every two or three days. We have the industrial exhibition opened here today so want to see it fine for a week until that is over. Will you kindly remember me to all your people and also the Ampthill friends generally. Mrs.Francis joins with me in thanking you again for your good wishes and we hope that we may some day have the pleasure of welcoming to our little home in W"peg
