Letter from S.A.Francis from Souris, Manitoba [Canada] on Canadian Pacific Railway Company notepaper: "I received your welcome letter of Oct 12th and in reply to it I am pleased to say that I am getting on first class and like the work very much. You will see by the paper that I am now in the Office of the Superintendent here I was moved in here about six weeks ago and am just getting on to the work. My hours are from 9 to 6 with 2 hours off for dinner. The winter has set in now and we get it very cold at times it is not the frosts so much that one feels but the cold piercing winds, which seem to blow right through you. We have had the thermometer down to 20 below zero but did not notice the cold any more than I would have in the old country. We are getting some grand weather just now, cold but the sun is beautiful and the air so invigorating. I am glad to say that the country suits me much better than England and I feel a lot better out here. I am taking up shorthand again with another young fellow in the office. He comes to my room every evening from 7 till 8. I wish I had kept on with it when I started with you at Ampthill. How are all the Ampthill people. Remember kindly to them all, they are too many to mention by name. Don't forget your own people I often think of the pleasant times I spent with you. You must get a fortnight's extension to your holidays next year and take a trip out to see me. I am sure you would enjoy yourself. has Mr.Tutt got another assistant in my place yet. I wrote him a long letter last week. I find my correspondence takes up such a lot of time there are so many to write to. I shall have to conclude for this time as we are very busy just now being the end of the month. It will near Xmas when you get this so I will conclude by wishing you and all your household a very happy Xmas and prosperous New Year.
