  • Scope and Content
Most of the entries tell how many times they attended chapel and where (usually Ampthill, sometimes Westoning), who the preacher was and what the text was. There are occasional references to the family and events for example July 1898 'We broke up in the morning for a months holiday and the little ones had their party. Went for a drive to Eversholt & Father went to see Mrs Chance. I was not well, so I could not go to the party, but Sam went & Bill was not well either...Did not go out as Bill was not better but Father went down to Mr Bradswaw to buy the beef.' Two pages of memoranda give dates of the deaths and funerals of Mr G Rushbrooke of Ampthill, Mr Gower, 'Uncle William Thomas', Hazel Eleanor Constance Chance, Mr Lipscomb, Mrs Munn and Mrs Kingfield. Also recorded are 'Mary put her hair up Mon Sept 25th [1899]' and 'Had a bee hive from Mr Hollis Sat Oct 7th price 10/-
