Title
Letter from Simon Houfe at Avenue House, Ampthill to Andrew Underwood:
"1. While I was on holiday recently, I was reading Lady Charlotte Schreiber, Extracts from Her Journal 1853-1891. By the Earl of Bessborough (John Murray) 1952. I was much intrigued to find that Lady Charlotte's daughter married the Rev.Cecil Alderson, who was curate of Ampthill; this was in 1861-2. I imagine that she visited them here and as she was an extremely influential lady, a great connoisseur and managed the Dowlais ironworks, the fact is not without interest. Alderson's sister was married to the 3rd Marquess of Salisbury and he was therefore uncle to the 4th Marquess who was premier. Rather a distinguished curate! Can you tell me any more?
2. have you another Ampthill rector up your sleeve and if so, could we have one for the September Church & Town, the copy date for which would be the first week of August".
