  • Title
Letter from Mrs.J.Harris of Bath [Somerset] to Andrew Underwood: "I hope you do not mind me writing to you, but your name has been given to me as an Ampthill historian. I am trying to clarify the identity of Father Christmas. The enclosed memorial letter [AU10/37/4] was sent to my grandmother, who was employed as a companion to the Misses Giddins until her marriage in 1898. You will see on the first page that these ladies had a brother the Rev.George Giddins. On the last page it writes of their venerable friend "Father Christmas" but gives no name. In the undated cutting [AU10/37/3] George Giddins is described as "Father Christmas". I also have a photograpg and written on the back is "George Giddins taken on his 84th birthday at Hitchin Herts" and he does indeed look like our roof climbing friend. I wondered if in your research you have come across this family and could tell me if there were two George Giddins"
