Letter from John Attenburrow of 'Spindlewood', Wardhedges Road, Flitton to D. Needham, trustee of the charity… 'I think Roy Hogarth mentioned to you that I was interested in renting an allotment on the Flitton Charity Lands. He told me at the weekend that there were some vacant and we went and looked at them. Of those that are vacant I would like to take the one that is covered with nettles on the right hand side (plot 5), approaching from the road - the one next door to the one with a few fruit trees and a shed. I understand that there are not any vacant that have been recently cultivated, if there were, I, obviously, would prefer one of these. My neighbour, Jim Riddle, who is also a friend of Roy's, would also like to rent one. He understands that Mr. Piper is moving from School Lane to Silsoe. If Mr. Piper gives up the two plots he rents he'd like to take those over. Failing that he will take one of the uncultivated ones at the bottom - opposite Roy's second one'. Written note on end reads… 'Mr. Riddle withdrew several weeks later because he got an acre of ground nearer home'.
