    [f.182d] John Day of Crowley Grene in the parish of Luton, made 7 Jun. Pr. 12 July 1546. Burial in the church of Luton as near his wife's seat as may be convenient. To the high altar of the same church for tithes forgotten 12d.; to the church of Lincoln 4d.; to the building of the roof of Luton church 3s. 4d.; to the repairs of the church of Kinges Walden 6s. 8d.. He asks for an honest priest to say a trental of masses in Luton church for testator and his friends and all Christians immediately after his death for 10s.. To wife Elzabeth the copyhold house and land where testator lives, and also his copyhold called the Hawte for the term of her life, while she remains single. If she remarries then William Day, testator's son, to enter upon both copyholds. After the death of wife, properties to descend to testator's son William and then to whichever of William's children he chooses. Should wife wish to let the properties, then son William Day to be the preferred tenant. To wife also all his crop and the grain in the ground, from which she is to give to son William Day 2 quarters of wheat between Michaelmas and the Annunciation of Our Lady next after testator's death, and she is also to give to testator's daughter Jone Deremer wife of Richard Deremer a quarter of wheat and 6 quarters of barley. To wife also all testator's horse and carts, plough and plough gears, with all his beasts and hoggs, except one young cow, which is to go to daughter in law Agnes Day. To wife all household stuff, and half his sheep and half his wool , from which she is to pay 33s. 4d. "the wiche shalbe done and bestowed for me" . To son Lawrence Day in money £3 6s. 8d. to be paid by wife and son William between Michaelmas and Christmas next. To godson John Deremer the younger a ewe and a lamb. To Jeys [?Joyce] Day the daughter of son John Day 6s. 8d. , and to John the son of William Day a ewe and a lamb. To Agnes Day dau. of William Day a ewe and a lamb [is this a pun]. To every godchild 4d.. At his burial in the said church of Luton he asks for a dirige and 3 masses "Solemply song with the hole quere And at my month tyde to be done in lyke manner." He asks for a yearly obit in Luton church for the next 20 years to be done for his soul and the souls of his friends and all Christians, which his wife is to keep while she has the profit of his houses , and afterwards son William to keep. To son John Day the younger testator's best coat. To Thomas Asshebe a pair of hose. To son William Day half of all sheep and half of all wool, charged with the payment of 33s. 4d. for the services said for testator and his friends. Residue to wife Elzabeth, executrix, and son William Day executor. Supervisor Lawrence Stawford, to whom 6s. 8d.. Witnesses Thomas Welles, Richard Deremer, John Reyner.
