Title
Folio 128 - Lawrens Radwell of Kempston, husbandman, made Oct. 1545 and proved 1545.
Burial in the churchyard of All Hallowes in Kempston. To mother church of Lincoln 2d.; to the high altar of Kempston for tithes forgotten 6d.; to the Sepulchre light there 3d.; to the upkeep of the bells in the same church 6d.. He asks for a trental of masses to be said in Kempston church for 10s. for souls of himself, his good friends and all Christians.
His wife Elzabeth to have for her lifetime his copyholding where he lives and all the lands going with it, which is held of Sir Michael Fyssher knight, according to the custom of the manor. On Elzabeth's death the copyholding is to go to John Radwell, testator's youngest son, and to his heirs after the custom of the manor, and should son John die without heirs male, then property to go to heirs male of testator, according to a surrender of premises made into the hands of John Ynglysse of Kempston, another tenant of the manor, in the presence of Thomas Newold senior, William Allen and Thomas Whyte , other tenants of the same manor, according to which the copyhold was to be held to the uses of testator's will.
As to his freehold lands, these to are to go to wife Elzabeth for her lifetime, and then to go to testator's said youngest son John, and to his heirs male, and for lack of heirs male, then to revert to heirs male of testator.
Wife Elzabeth to have the "governance" of son John until he comes to a lawful age.. Should Elzabeth remarry, then John to have and enjoy half of testator's moveables and half the "annuities" of the land both freehold and copyhold. Should wife remain single then she to have the keeping of the child during his nonage.
Residue to wife Elzabeth, she to be executrix with her kinsman John Jenkinges the elder of Steppeingley and sir Nicholas Dynsay clerk and parson of the parish church of St. Cuthbertes in Bedford to be supervisor.
