- TitleFolio 86d - Nicholas Cockes of Stageden made 29 Apr. pr. 26 Sept. 1545. Burial in the churchyard of St. Leonard of Stageden. To mother church of Lincoln 2d.; to the high altar for tithes forgotten 12d.; to the Sepulchre light 3 lb. of wax, to the Rood light 3 lb. of wax, to the torches 2 lb. of wax, to the bells 16d.. To wife Ellen his house and land with all pastures and meadows within the bounds of Stageden, keeping up the repairs of the house without making any waste of wood, and to fell trees by the root except it be for the repairs of the said house. Wife not to mortgage the house, and after her death, the house is to be divided between his sons Thomas and William, to whichever of them will be most able to "redeme" his brother's part. To son Thomas one cow and 20s. in money, a pair of flaxen sheets and 2 pair of harden sheets, to have these at the age of 22. To testator's daughter Alys a cow and 20s. in money, a pair of flaxen sheets and two pair of harden sheets, to have at her "lawfull age as is aforsaid". To son William one cow and 20s. of money, a pair of flaxen sheets and 2 pair of harden sheets. To daughter Anne a cow and 20s., a pair of flaxen sheets and 2 pair of harden sheets, at her lawful age. To daughter Alys his great pan, his wife's best girdle and his best coffer, after his wife's death. To son William his second spit and his second pot after the death of his mother. To daughter Agnes his second pot, his second coffer and his wife's best beads after her death. To son Richard Cockes a cow, and to all his godchildren 2d. each. To Nicholas Cockes the son of Richard and testator's godson 12d..to Robert Osmond 4d.. To sir William Stringar 3s. 4d. and to every priest that says mass for testator's soul 4d.."And my servantes grotes a pece, And to everry one that cummeth to my Dole halpeny dole". Residue to wife Elen, executrix, with Richard Cockes executor, he to have 5s.. Alexander Erle to be supervisor, to whom 3s. 4d.. Witnesses sir William Stryngar, Elexander Erle and Richard Cockes.
