Letter from Henry Rainey Upcher at Steads Hotel, Bath [Somerset] to John Thomas Green[?]: "By your letter I learn for the first time that Solicitors had any claim on the 1/2 per cent offered by government in the conversion of funds. I understood that it was simply a bankers fee. So if I have done any thing wrong, you must excuse me. This is what has happened. I had letters from you, H.P.Powell & Mr.Robert Pryor asking my views on consent to the conversion. I consulted the Norwich bankers, among whom I have some good friends & also Henry Powell, a city man & likely to know what was the best thing for me to agree to. Messrs Gurneys sent me a form to sign touching my own money & Henry Powell advised me to ask them to send him forms to sign & pass on to you. This I did, having heard nothing from you, since our first interchange of letters. I am very grateful to you for all you have done for us in the management of our affairs & hope the due share of the compensation money will be handed over to you without further trouble. We return to Sheringham on Tuesday".
