  • Title
Letter from John Latham in Congleton [Cheshire] to John Thomas Green: "The following are the facts relating to this matter. The late Miss Cobb borrowed from a Mr.Percival £1500. She executed a deed charging the Property at Woburn with the amount. After her death the Deed was still in the hands of the parties who had been acting for Miss Cobb & the Lender. The deed was without date when it was decided to sell the Property after Miss Cobb's death. The gentleman who was then acting for Mr.Percival suggested that as the Deed bore no date and had not been handed over to Mr.Percival it might be kept out of the title. This suggestion was adopted. But considerable delay having arisen in the Sales & Settlement with Mr.Percival he has now given Notice of his Mortgage. Of course this causes a difficulty. Mr.Percival is quite willing to release the lots sold and I propose to send you an Abstract of the Mortgage Deed [see HN10/274/Hopkins4] from which you can prepare a release which I will get Mr.Percival to execute and then the matter can be completed. Please let me hear whether to you will adopt my suggestion and whether you suggest any [unreadable]"
