Letter from Michael John Castleden at 1 Campden Villas, Marlborough Road, Ealing [Middlesex] to J.B.Woodforde: "Under the Will of my late Uncle Mr.Geo.Castleden of Woburn who died Septr 1884 I became the Owner of Four Freehold Cottages at Ridgmount [sic]. Both verbally & in writing his wishes were in the want of disposal, the first offer should be made to His Grace the Duke of Bedford in the hope it might be Kindly accepted & as His Grace's property is round the said Freehold. They are all lit, the aggregate Annual Rent being £14-6-0 namely. 3 at 17/4 Per Qr = £10.8 per Ann 1 at 19/6 Per Qr - 3.18 Per Ann £14.6 Land Tax 4/- price £200 These are the circumstances which induce me to approach His Grace, asking you, Kindly to be my interpreter" Note by J.B.Woodforde in Jun 1887: "These are 4 low roofed slated Cottages which perhaps might be made more convenient if made into two dwellings"
