  • Title
Letter from George James Jennings, National Schoolmaster at Kirkby in Ashfield [Nottinghamshire] to John Thomas Green: "Not having heard from you since my last communication with reference to the trust fund under the late G.King's Will, in which I authorised you to obtain power of attorney for the Brother to sell out the remainder of the Trust £250.15.3) now standing in my name as Trustee, at a suitable opportunity, and the same to be transferred to me, to be applied by me in the best manner possible, along with £400 of my own, for the benefit of my wife & Children. This was the wish of the late Mrs.Howe when she authorised me so shortly before her death to ask you for the transfer of the above. It seems to me unnecessary and greatly to be deprecated that the whole business for the remainder of the trust should be complicated and the responsibilities of Trustees increased by continuing the trust for an indefinite time longer under the plea of providing for the children. Should a suitable opportunity of investing present itself, as no doubt will be the case, I should like to have the money at hand for the purpose. I think the settling of the business in the way I have mentioned is the best, but if you have anything to suggest I should like to hear it. Mr.Henry Howe has offered to take all I have to spare at 6 per C. but as there would be no better security than a Promissory Note, i am very doubtful of the wisdom of such a step. For the present, however, the money would be placed in the Nottm & Notts Bank. I may add that my wife is fully cognizant of my affairs, & approves of the arrangement proposed above. Herewith is appended her consent in writing in due form". "Having read the above letter I beg to say that I thoroughly approve of the money in my name, left by my mother, being transferred to my husband G.J.Jennings so that the management thereof may be simplified and the money made use of to the best advantage under his care for the benefit of the children". Signed by Henrietta Caroline Jennings
