'...as to business I am sorry to say it is fearful in London, our customers are chiefly the middle class & there are thousands out of Employ, we are expecting the Electric trams to pass my door when I hope that will make a bit of difference. I am trying to lesson my expenses all I possibly can, discharged a man last week who has been at this shop 10 years I could not afford to pay him 28/- pr week...drive up to market 3 mornings a week...meat is bought very reasonable if we could only sell more it would be all right....'
