In the year 1879 my affairs were liquidated by arrangement under provisions of the Bankruptcy Act 1869 in the County Court of Bedfordshire holden at Luton. I had a composition of 2/6 in the £ & to the best of my belief obtained my discharge in the latter end of 1879. I then owed the debt the subject of this Action to Mr. Frederic Willis. He or his partner in the first instance acted as my Solicitor in the above mentioned dealings with my Creditors and I believe that the debt due to Mr.Willis was satisfied or compounded for in such proceedings. I left Milton Bryan where I formerly resided in the month of January 1880 and went to reside at Southcott, Linslade, Bucks. Since I left Milton Bryan as aforesaid neither I nor any person by my direction or on my behalf have or has ever given to the said Frederic Willis any acknowledgement in writing of such debt paid any sum on a/c" "Even if the sd debt was not satisfied in the liquidation proceedings above mentd I claim that all remedies for recovery thereof are now barred under the provisions of the Statute"
