- TitleLetter from John Holdom at Fenny Stratford [Buckinghamshire] to George Slark: "In answer to your's of this morning, I write to say that I am quite prepared to meet you in whatever course you may think well to persue [sic]; in your claim upon me as Agent for the sale of my property. Therefore I must refer you to my Solicitor Mr.Green of Woburn. I had not the slightest idea that you would send me in a bill of commission, as I considered throughout the transaction that you were the agent of Messrs Willis and not mine & I think I am in a position to prove it. Perhaps you do not remember coming to my house and telling me that you had been commissioned by a party to look out for some land for building speculation, and that they were indifferent as to whether it was in this neighbourhood or elsewhere. I admit having said would you try to get back the first offer of £3,500, so I suppose this is what you base your claim upon but did you succeed? Was it to be expected you could serve two masters? You say you thought you were dealing with an honourable man, which indicates that I am dishonourable; perhaps my honour will stand the test with yours so the less you say about it the better"
