Letter from William John Tranah at 1 Salisbury Street Blandford Forum [Dorset] to William Henry Smith at Woburn: "I have by this morning's post received a letter from the person who collects the rental of the property in Belmore Street and Milton Place upon which your client holds a mortgage and he has received notice not to pay me any more rental on account and the property is to be sold on the 12th inst. I think under the circumstances you might have informed me of the fact; as you was aware I was negociating [sic] the sale privately. I am going to Town on Thursday and have an appointment with a gentleman on Saturday and I hope before I leave Town to complete (i.e. to receive his offer for me to submit to Mrs.Wakelin) and I believe he would complete at Christmas. But of course if the Premises are to be sold by auction (altho. as I have previously told you I don't believe they will ever realize the amount advanced upon them) it will be impossible for me to try and do anything with them. I intended after seeing this gentleman to run down and see you on the subject. By taking the action you have in the [unreadable] instead of [unreadable] has materially damaged the chance of the property being privately sold. I will advise what ever you do with all due difference [sic] to the parties who may have proposed at that you do not sell by auction but by private contract please write me by return to London as below. If you decide not to go for sale I will see the party I am negotiating with otherwise it is useless (but of course in a case like this it is impossible to hurry matters. I have already been in negotiation with several). In all respects it would be better for your client as she would have no expense to pay for selling. However it is for you to decide which is best for your Client's Interest. Awaiting your early reply"
