I think last year: Dear Charlie I have to tell you that I have not taken any steps about my marriage settlement. I asked the advice of Uncle Green who said he thought it best not to cancel the settlement except your Father was called upon to pay money on account of his guarantees. With reference to the services for which your Father has given Security viz £500 & £200 to your Uncle John. £500 to Uncle Aveling for which he holds letters from me stating that if he is called upon to pay the whole or part of such sums that I authorize him to deduct the amount from the £5000 which he has of mine in his hands.
