    Folio 120 John Underwod of Gretford in the parish of Sanday made 8 Feb. 1541/2, pr. 1542. Burial in the parish church yard of St. Swethune in Sanday. To the high altar there 2s.; to the Sepulchre light 3s. 4d.; to the church of Sandey 20s.; to a priest to sing for testator and his friends 53s. 4d.; to Gretford Stone Brege 20s.; to Gretford Strete from the forge to my brother Thomas Underwodd's gate 20s.. To his wife Jone the house where testator lives and 20 acres of arable land for her lifetime, unless she remarry and she is to keep an annual obit for the testator and his friends. His house and land (after the death or remarriage of his wife) to Water Underwod and his heirs, which Water is the son of Thomas Underwode. For lack of heirs, then the property is to go to his brother Thomas and his heirs, and for lack of heirs, then to their brother John and his heirs, in default to Richard and his heirs, and always whoever is in possession is to keep the obit. Water or Thomas or John are to pay to "the longar leveing brother" 3s. 4d. a year. To John son of Thomas Underwod, a copyholding called Palmerys Howse, after the death of testator's widow Joane. To wife Joane 5 beasts of her own choice and a couple of testator's best oxen "that goth to the plowegh". His executors are to choose 40 of testator's best sheep and then his wife to choose 20 ewes and 40 "gyste" sheep. To his wife 4 horses and all the wheat and rye that is sown, and corn to sow her land and maintain her house and household. Also to wife all household stuff. To servant Alys Preston 33s. 4d.. To Margery wife of Thomas James 22s. and the debt he owes to testator. To every godson 20d. and to every goddaughter 12d.. To each dau. of Thomas Underwod a quarter of barley. To the 2 children of John Hunt a quarter of barley each. To Hewgh Flint and his wife and his 4 children 2 sheep each. To John the son of Hugh Flynte 20s. To Richard Hunt who had been testator's servant 20d.. To servant John Whyt 2s.. To servant John Wilson 20d.. To John Mylner testator's shepherd 2 sheep, and to Alys the dau. of John Mylner a sheep.
