  • Scope and Content
    Burial in the chancel of Our Lady of Stodham; to the upkeep of the church 40s.; to the torches 10 pound of wax; £4 is to be bestowed at his burial amongst the priests, clerks, poor people, and on other necessities, and similarly on his month's day. He wishes there to be said every Friday (except Good Friday) a mass of the Five Wounds of Our Lord, the priest to have 4d. for every mass. To every godchild 6d.. His executors or the church wardens of Stodham are for the next 6 years to distribute to the parishioners at the church door every Good Friday in the honour of the Passion 4 dozen of bread. All his household stuff belonging to his hall and chamber and kitchen shall be divided into 2 parts, and "Thomas Geffray my Ladde" shall choose one part, and the other part is to be given to William Bradewen and Margaret his wife and their children "for there delygent labor and attendanc to me in my tribulacion and seckenes". To Elzabeth Atkings for her like attendance 10s.. Residue to be used in works of charity for his soul "in messes synging, to churches where nede is, in hyght ways, to pore peple specyally my kynysfockes". Executors John Roberdes and William Bemount; Supervisor William Belefilde; each of the three to have 10s.. Witnesses Henry Clarke, John Atkinges, Richard Roberdes.
