    Abstract of the title of Philemon Beckett to freehold cottages and premises in the Roman Road, Moulsham, Chelmsford, Essex. Abstracting: (Recital I) Conveyance dated 9th June 1849 between (1) James Parker of Great Baddow, Essex, esquire; Edmund Round of Springfield, Essex, esquire; Duncan Fraser of Halstead, Essex, Clerk (2) John Copland of Chelmsford, Essex, gentleman (3) Thomas Comyns Parker of Inner Temple, London. Reciting: - Charles George Parker late of Springfield, Essex made his last will dated 15th Feb 1847 and conveyed to (1) all residue of his lands and hereditamnets upon trust that (1) should convert into money - CGP died on the 21st Aug 1847 and his will was proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on the 1st Oct 1847. Operative: In consideration of £290 (1) conveys (a) to (2). (a) (See attached plan) All that piece or parcel of pasture land in Moulsham, Chelmsford subject with other lands to two moduses of £2/14/8; bounded on NE by land of J. Copland and Twingite Chapel; NW by land belonging to James Parker; SW by land for new roadway; SE partly by land recently purchased from (1) by Messrs. Moss & French and partly by road leading from Baddow Lane to Ladys Lane; containing 2a 2r 21p and was in the occupation of Robert Sorrell being part of seven plots of land previously in the occupation of Thomas Cooper and purchased by Charles George Parker. Together with certain rights of way. Habendum: Unto and to the use of (2) (Recital II) Conveyance dated 25th Sep 1868 between (1) John Copland of Chelmsford, Essex, gentleman (2) Philemon Beckett of the same, brushmaker. Operative: In consideration of £30 (1) conveys (a) to (2). (a) (See attached plan) Freehold ground in Moulsham, Chelmsford (land tax redeemed and free from tithe) on SE side of a new road made by (1) called The Roman Road. The ground comprises of a small parcel of (a) as conveyed in (Recital I) together with certain rights of way. Habendum: Unto and to the use of (2) (Recital III) Conveyance dated 4th Aug 1869 between (1) John Copland of Chelmsford, Essex, gentleman (2) Philemon Beckett of the same, brushmaker. Operative: In consideration of £60 (1) conveys (a) to (2). (a) Freehold ground in Moulsham, Chelmsford (land tax redeemed and free from tithe) adjoining (a) at (Recital II) and on SE of The Roman Road together with certain rights of way. Habendum: Unto and to the use of (2) (Recital IV) Mortgage dated 5th Aug 1869 between (1) Philemon Beckett of Chelmsford, Essex; (2) John Copland of same. Operative: Mortgage from (1) to (2) in consideration of £350 with interest at £5 per centum per annum. (1) conveys (a) to (II) as security for the money borrowed. (a) Subject to hereditaments and premises outlined in Recital II and III along with cottages and tenements lately built by (1). Habendum: to the use of (2) subject to usual mortgage covenants for redemption. (Recital V) Will of John Copland dated 8th May 1875. Appointed wife Lydia Copland and his sons John Albert Copland and Edmund Pledger Copland and his son-in-law Walter Woodcock Perry his executors and trustees and he devised all estates as at his death will be vested in him as mortgagee to his executors. (Recital VI) John Copland dies on the 25th Nov 1880. (Recital VII) Will was proved in probate division of the high court of justice on the 15th Jan 1881. (Recital VIII) Deed poll dated 26th Sep 1881 whereby Lydia Copland and Walter Woodcock Perry reject, disclaim and renounce: All right and title to estates that were at the death of JC at (recital VI) vested in him as trustee and mortgagee. (Recital IX) Edmund Pledger Copland died on the 10th Jul 1883 and was buried in the New London Road cemetery, Chelmsford. (Recital X) Transfer of mortgage dated 23rd Oct 1883 between (1) John Albert Copland (2) Philemon Beckett (3) Walter Woodcock Perry of Springfield, Essex, gentleman (4) John Albert Copland and Walter W. Perry. Reciting: - Mortgage at (Recital IV) Operative: Mortgage from (2) to (4) in consideration of £350 being the money borrowed to (1) from a joint account of (4). (4) become the new mortgagees and (1) as beneficial conveys (a) to (4) subject to the same covenants for redemption and interest rates as outlined in the mortgage at (Recital IV). (a) see (Recital IV). (Recital XI) Transfer of mortgage dated 15TH June 1885 (endorsed on last indenture) between (1) John Albert Copland and Walter W. Perry (2) Charles Albert Copland of Chelmsford, Essex, gentleman (3) John Albert Copland. Reciting: Mortgage at (Recital IV) and transfer of mortgage at (Recital X) Operative: in consideration of £352/17/6 paid by (3) to (1), (1) transferred mortgage to (3) and conveyed (a) as at (Recital X) unto (2) to the use of (3) subject to covenants for redemption and interest rates as previously outlined.
