Letter from C.P. Hall of Park Farm Office, Woburn to Anthony Henry Wingfield of Ampthill House, Ampthill: 'With reference to the Duke of Bedford's proposal to transfer the manorial rights of the manor of maulden to yourself, I am requested by His Grace to communicate with you and the subject, and to say that he is prepared to proceed with this matter at once, if you have any desire to succeed him as lord of the manor. The rents received amount to £-/4/8½ per annum, and it is suggested that transfer should be made to yourself for a nominal consideration, say one pound and that you should defray the costs of the conveyance, which I understand would only amount to a very small sum. On hearing that this proposal is acceptable to you, I will instruct the Duke of Bedford's solicitor to proceed with the matter'.
