Three Letters to F.T. Tanqueray, solicitor, Woburn relating to Matthew Brunt's experience of managing land prior to purchasing Harry Howard's holdings at Maulden Great Farm. Including: - Letter dated 11th Feb 1913 from Samuel Harrison, Renhold 'Mr Brunt has asked me for assistance for which I shall be pleased to give him, I have known him for several years and can strongly recommend him as a good practical man of business, he has been managing a farm adjoining me of some 500 acres and has grown a good deal of market garden stuff and I must say he has done it exceedingly well with his work and gets things done at the proper time there is no doubt he would make good headway on his own if he had anything suitable he being very steady and trustworthy in every respect'. - Letter dated 13th Feb 1913 from Mr M. Brunt, College Farm, Great Barford, St.Neot's You ask of my experience in managing land. I have been in the market gardening all may life, I have managed this farm for Mr F.W. Davison nearly 6 years I shall be leaving on my own hands, it is not because I have to leave Mr Davison only I thought I would like to get somewhere on my own'. - Letter from J. Arnold Whitchurch, Great Barford House, St.Neot's 'I have known Matthew Brunt well during his residence at Great Barford. I believe him to be a man of the highest personal character in every respect who has set a most excellent example in our village where (should he leave) he would be much missed. Mr Brunt is a man of much intellectual capability and his knowledge of market gardening is very large both practically and theoretically'.
