Letters include: (a) 26 Sep 1911: Notice given by George Holdom and William Wood, executors of the will of Emily Marion Pouchot deceased authorising G.Payne to take over the management of the Bell and to employ a person to reside on the premises while keeping the existing staff. (b) 27 Oct 1911: Letter from the Welch Ale Brewery Ltd, 531 Kings Road, Chelsea to G.Payne stating the particulars of trade in the last 12 months of Mrs Pouchot's tenancy which was also forwarded to prospective buyer Mr. H.L. Harvey; Beer: 18 Brls, Bottled Beer: 462 doz; Wines & Spirits: 153 gals. (c) 8 Nov 1911: Letter from Horace Lionel Harvey, 33 Idmiston Road, Strotford to G. Payne explaining difficulties of getting the purchase money for the house he is trying to sell and setting out how he will resolve the situation. (d) 30 Dec 1911: Letter from Horace Lionel Harvey, 33 Idmiston Road, Stratford to G. Payne highlighting that the efforts to purchase the Bell Hotel has been a failure since raising the amount has proved impossible. (e) 2 Jan 1912: Letter from G.Payne to the Welch Ale Brewery Ltd, 531 Kings Road, Chelsea highlighting that the expense of rent and license for the Bell Hotel seems to be serving as a deterrent to potential buyers.
