  • Title
    (i) Bundle of correspondence, mainly between Hugh Millar (incoming tenant to Redhills Farm, Toddington), Ivan Murray (steward on the estate of which Redhills Farm is part), Frost (outgoing tenant) and Cooper (landlord) concerning Millar's desire to construct a cow shed on the property and a dispute over the valuation of several fixtures, including some sheep pens, a cart shed and a small duck house, 23 January - 3 December 1904. (ii) Bundle of correspondence concerning a dispute between Mr Millar, Mr Cooper and Mr Frost. Millar has to pay for all the straw and hay left by Frost. He is willing to pay the money, but Frost owes Cooper money for rent and dilapidations and Cooper wants Millar to pay the money to him instead of Frost, 12 January - 20 April 1905. (iii) Letter: written on behalf of Mr Frost to Mr Millar stating that unless Millar pays the valuation of 111-5 within a week, legal action shall be taken, 8 February 1905. (iv) Letter: H W Fathorn, Solicitor, to Mr Millar, informing him that the summons came on before Master this morning, and that he would not recognise any privity between Millar and his landlord, but gave judgement for the amount claimed 111-5 with 8-10 to be paid to Mr Frost, 17 March 1905. (v) Newspaper cutting describing in detail the Millar vs Cooper case, March 1905. (vi) Correspondence concerning a dispute over the polluted water coming out of Millar's pump and whether it is the tenant's or landlord's obligation to sort the matter out, 7 April - 8 July 1905. (vii) Inspection of a holding known as "Redhills", situated at Toddington, in the occupation of Hugh Millar, 2 February 1906 (1 copy, plus draft). (viii) Correspondence: various letters from Mr Millar, requesting information on white crops; asking what is to be done about repairs to his house; explaining that some of his cows have gone astray and asking for gaps in his fences to be stopped up, 10 February - 21 August 1906. (ix) Correspondence, mainly between H Trustram Eve and A W Merry, concerning a valuation that is to be carried out at Redhills Farm, 20 September - 31 October 1906. (x) Correspondence, concerning an arbitration that is to be carried out at Redhills Farm by John Looker. Mr Millar and his agent A W Merry are making a claim on Mrs Edith Georgina Warren Vernon (landlady) because of the dilapidated condition of the hedges, fences, gates and land when Mr Millar took the farm, 31 October - 11 November 1906. (xi) Correspondence, concerning a dispute that has arisen because Henry George (Millar's original valuer) told H Trustham Eve (Mrs E Warren Vernon's agent) that Millar has already received some compensation for foul land whereas Merry had been led to believe Millar had had nothing, 20 November - 29 November 1906. (xii) Award: John Looker states that Hugh Millar is entitled to receive form E Warren Vernon 49-6-6 as compensation in respect of the improvements comprised in the first schedule to the award and 45 in respect of the claims mentioned in the second schedule to the award. Also that E Warren Vernon is entitled to receive 31 in respect of the claims mentioned in the third schedule to the award, 3 December 1906. (xiii) Letter: Mr Millar to A W Merry, expressing dissatisfaction with the results of the award, 7 December 1906. (xiv) Statement of feeding stuffs consumed on Redhills Farm, Toddington, 1904-1905. 1906 (2 copies). (xv) Statement of croppings at Redhills Farm, Toddington, 1906 (1 copy, plus draft).
