  • Title
    Extract from admission at court of Leighton Buzzard alias Grovebury of Jonathan Barrett as devisee in trust under will of Samuel Reeve - presentment of death of Samuel Reeve seized of: (a) two tenements adjoining White Horse, latterly called Roebuck, Leighton Buzzard formerly in occupation of John Atkins, then William Drage, then Edward Walker the Benjamin Gartside and which were formerly part of it but later were divided from it in occupation of Joseph felce and Widow Hack, then Elizabeth Clark, widow and Robert Turnham; situated on S side of Roebuck fronting W onto Lindons Alley, the two tenements having been pulled down by Benjamin Reeve and built two new ones on ground 40 feet long by 25 feet wide; (b) washhouse and room over it formerly in occupation of Benjamin Gartside as part of Roebuck; (c) piece of three stall stable adjoining little yard belonging to tenement erected by Benjamin Reeve near (b) measuring 10 ft 6 in long and 2 ft 10 in broad from loft floor to ground and partitioned from rest of stable at expense of Samuel Reeve; (d) space of ground or passage leading from street in front of tenement lately in occupation of Elizabeth Clarke to back door in yard of Roebuck; (e) small square of ground at upper end of Roebuck Yard adjoining "necessary house" inclosed and fenced in by Benjamin Reeve with full right of way for Samuel Reeve in and out of gateway of Roebuck to and from Jeffs Lane with use of necessary house and pump of water paying a third expense of cleaning the necessary house and maintaining the pump, reserving to John Morris, owner of Roebuck cellar under tenement formerly in occupation of Elizabeth Clark afterwards new built adjoining Roebuck with stairs and passage up and down through corner of upper room of tenement erected by Benjamin Reeve adjoining Roebuck leading to two rooms over washhouse in Roebuck occupying a space 9 feet long by 3 feet wide; (f) barn or stable with loft over in Gigg Lane alias Jeffs Lane in occupation of Thomas Higbid afterwards John Tebworth which had been converted into a cottage in occupation of Widow James; (g) cottage formerly called White Horse, now Roebuck, near Market House formerly in occupation of William Drage then Benjamin Gartside then Benjamin Gartside and Samuel Reeve; (h) cottage in Leck End called Sun late in occupation of John Hopkins then Joshua Hopkins; (i) cottage in Leck End in which James Bates formerly dwelled for some time past divided into 2 tenements in occupation of George Day and Daniel Phillips, then William Tomes and Rebecca Straford then John White and Widow Brewer, then William Tomes and Surfield; (j) cottage in Middle Row in occupation of Thomas Higbid and others, then Benjamin Reeve, then Samuel Reeve next to house formerly of Thomas Turnham now Elizabeth Harris S; with outbuildings etc. formerly a bakehouse and barn; (k) pightle of pasture whereon stood a cottage, long since burned down and called Sun Close, Leck End formerly in occupation of John Laurie then William Rogers then Samuel Reeve; (l) cottage in Middle Row formerly of John Marshall, many years since divided into 2 tenements, one long since used as Cross Keys inn in occupation of William King and James Sharp then Henry Samuel and William Drage; (m) site on which cottages once stood in occupation of William Flemons, miller, then John Layton, gardener, now bounded out by stones from Market Place near Cross; (n) land at upper end of freehold close previously of John Fox, then William Pyne then Samuel Reeve in Friday Lane; - presentment of will of Samuel Reeve of 24 Sep 1821 devising the lands above to William Exton of Leighton Buzzard, gentleman and William Cutforth of Leighton Buzzard, draper upon trust for sale; - presentment of codicil of 1 Aug 1826 to will of Samuel Reeve replacing William Cutforth with Jonathan Barrett of Northampton Square [Middlesex], ironfounder; - presentment of codicil of 23 Feb 1836 to will of Samuel Reeve; - presentment of proof of will and codicils in PCC; - presentment of deed poll of 28 Oct 1844 of William Exton renouncing executorship and trusteeship; - admission of Jonathan Barrett of Croydon [Surrey] by Arthur Ashfield, his attorney
