    Abstract of Title of Arthur William Stileman, esquire, to copyhold property at Biggleswade, Lot 4, abstracted by Stileman & Underwood of 7 Bedford Row, London W6; abstracting: (I) will of 1 Jul 1892 of Leonard Rudd of Church Road, Upper Norwood [Surrey], doctor of medicine appointing Henry Phillipson Spottiswoode executor and , amongst other things, devising his Biggleswade copyhold estate to use of Henry Phillipson Spottiswoode and Arthur William Stileman of 15 Furnivals Inn, London, solicitor to use of A.W.Stileman for his life, remainder to his eldest son (II) death of Leonard Rudd on 11 May 1893 (III) proof of will of Leonard Rudd in PPR on 9 Jun 1893 (IV) copy admission of 12 Feb 1894 of Henry Phillipson Spottiswoode and Arthur William Stileman, by Arthur John Hills their attorney, to property to which Leonard Rudd had been admitted on 9 Nov 1888, being a third share under will of his father Leonard Hampson Rudd (to which L.H.Rudd had been admitted on 21 Jul 1854) and third share under will of L.H.Rudd to which L.H.Rudd had been admitted on 14 Feb 1876 on surrender of John Henry and Anna Maria Poole in (a) cottage in Shortmead End, Biggleswade with garden and orchard behind and known as Blue Ball ale or public house in occupation of Wells & Company; (b) close of arable of 6a 2r op called Chapel Piece or Field in Biggleswade partly in occupation of Mrs.E.Woods and partly (11 poles) taken by Great Northern Railway Company and made into a road; (c) arable land in Biggleswade Town Field abutting on Hanger Field containing 6a 0r 20p in occupation of executors of Samuel Cocking, deceased; (d) arable in Biggleswade of 2 roods, part of larger piece of land called Cowfair Lands, partly inclosed by Giles Smith and partly open land used by John Malden on which he lay timber, then all in occupation of Mrs.Edwards; (e) piece of arable in Biggleswade known as Stone Lane of 4 acres in occupation of executors of Samuel Cocking, deceased (V) succession duty on succession of Arthur William Stileman paid on 5 Mar 1894 (VI) death of Henry Phillipson Spottiswoode on 9 May 1917 at Beulah Hill, Croydon [Surrey] (VII) will of 30 Nov 1914 of Frederic William Cheere Stileman of 7 Bedford Row, London, solicitor appointing his father, Arthur William Stileman as sole executor, devising and bequeathing all his real and personal estate to him (VIII) death of Frederic William Cheere Stileman in action when a captain in France on 23 Jul 1916 (IX) probate of will of Frederic William Cheese Stileman in PPR on 1 Aug 1917 (X) statutory declaration of 4 May 1918 by Arthur William Stileman inter alia; - marriage to Edith Cheere on 9 Aug 1883 at St.Matthew, Bayswater [Middlesex]; - he and his wife had six children including: Amy Frances Cheere Stileman born 17 Mar 1885; Frederic William Cheere Stileman born 13 Aug 1886 at 27 Dorset Road, Merton [Surrey]; - Frederic William Cheere Stileman was eldest son and became 21 on 13 Aug 1907, he was captain in 8th battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, had led his Company into action in a night attack on Bazentin le Petit and it was assumed he had been killed, every effort having been made to trace him in hospitals in France and among prisoners in Germany; he was a bachelor [Commonwealth Wargraves Commission notes him being commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, therefore he has no known grave]
