Born at Holme on Spalding Moor near Market Weedon [Market Weighton] in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where parents were then settled inhabitants; in 1810 let himself for a year as servant to Mrs. Linton of Foggathorpe in the East Riding; remained in service whole year and received wages of £16; no other act of settlement. Married present wife, Anne, at Cardington; they have four children all born in lawful wedlock: Jane, aged 12, William, aged 9, Charles, aged 4, and Mary Anne, aged 2. Is poor and unable to support his wife and family.
