  • Title
    Settlement on the intended marriage of Grace Katherine Dingwall to John Helps Starey between: (i) John Helps Starey of Colombo [Ceylon], gentleman, (ii) Charles Dingwall of Beverley Streatham [Surrey], esquire, (iii) Grace Katherine Dingwall of Streatham, spinster and daughter of (ii); (iv) Rev.Augustin Starey of Tottenham [Middlesex], clerk and Alexander Harvie Dingwall of Streatham, gentleman. Reciting, amongst other things - (ii) had agreed to pay £2,000 with interest - Indenture of 17 Feb 1882 in which (i) mortgaged to (iv) one seventh part of the Sembowattie Estate of Ceylon and stock for £2,000 marriage settlement at 5% - (i) had a life insurance policy for £1,000 with Royal Insurance Company of Liverpool dated 15 Aug 1874 with a six monthly premium of £24/3/4 until 23 Dec 1888; and a life insurance policy for £1,400 with Positive Government Security Life Assurance Company dated 17 Jan 1879 with a half yearly premium of £59/13/4; and had 6,000 rupees (say £600) from a previous surrendered policy - that £2,000 paid by (ii), £2,000 paid by (i) and the life policies of (i) and the property of (iii) should be a settled trust Witnessing - (ii) covenanted with (iv) to pay £2,000 at 5% to (iv) provided the intended marriage occurred, to be held on trust, together with the £2,000 paid by (i) for (i) and (iii) and invested in Government securities or corporation, company or public body stocks, funds, shares, debentures, mortgages or securities, the income of this and the £2,000 of (i) to be for the sole use of (iii) during her life, remainder to (i), remainder to any children. - if (iii) become seized, except from a will, of real or personal estate in excess of £250, unless it were jewellery, books, annuities or similar, it should be encashed and held by (iv) in trust in the same way as the two sums of £2,000 detailed above- (i) settled his two life assurance policies and 6,000 rupees from the surrendered policy on (iv) in trust Witnesses James Adam of Crichton House, Dumfries, Doctor of Medicine; John Dingwall of 8 Tokenhouse Yard
