Also includes guest list. 1974 (4) Correspondence between Mr. Lawson Johnston,(Chairman of the Bedford Theatre Project), and the Marquis of Tavistock, Woburn Abbey, Woburn, Bedfordshire, attempting to enlist his support for the project. The Marquis of Tavistock declines acceptance of the presidency because of family responsibilities but offers to reconsider this decision at a later stage. 1974 (5) File dealing with attempts to establish financial support from potential leading doners in Luton and Bedford, especially S.K.F.(U.K)Ltd, Vauxhall Motors Ltd. and Electrolux Ltd; fund-raising consultants reports, progress report and appraisal; letter from the chairman of the working party, Bedford Theatre Project to the chief executive, Bedford District Council, regarding the failure to raise the necessary funds to build a theatre. Plans to launch a public appeal have been shelved. 1974-1975 (6) Bedford Theatre Trust Limited: Minutes of meetings of directors of this company; press release (24th June 1975); newspaper cuttings from Bedfordshire Times (27th June 1975 )entitled "Yes, we want theatre, but only just", "Theatre for town hangs on a thread" and "Theatre to be, or not to be?"; correspondence regarding pledge of a total sum of £13,000 from The Christopher H.R. Reeves Charitable Trust, 4 and 6 Copthall Avenue, London, for Bedford Theatre Trust.
