    Petition to Justices from inhabitants of Dunstable. That John Whitlock and John Emerton overseers of highways, may be discharged from complaint of neglecting their duties. To the Right Honnorable his Majesties Judges of Assise for the County of Bedford Whereas the inhabitants of Dunstable in the County aforesaid being informed by John Whitlock and John Emerton that they being overseeres of the highwayes for the said parish in the yeare of our Lord 1681 were presented at Lent Assises in the said yeare for this said County for not doeing there duty in the said office Wee whose names are hereunder written Inhabitants in that parish doe humbly certify that the said John Whitlock and John Emerton did doe there duty in all things that did belong to there said office and did keepe the said highwayes in good repare and that the said presentment was don without the privity or consent of the said Inhabitants therefore wee humbly pray that the said John Whitlock & John Emerton may be discharged of the said presentment In witnes whereof wee have hereunto set our hands this 28th day of Februarie 1682 Fra Marshe John Briggs Daniell Fossey Edward Chester overseares John Whitley William Fossey Jnr William Blacknell Thomas Simkins William Bedford Rector John Gale, John Lee, churchwardens Richard Stringar Edward Rile Georg Ro..
