    Deposition: Mary, w. of Wm. Eames, Dunstable, waggoner. 26 June 1682. Suspects Ric.Smith of stealing 2 gold touch-pieces for the King's Evil which she had put round her child's neck. The Informacon of Mary Eames wife of William Eames of Dunstable in the County of Bedford waggonner taken upon Oath before me Sr Francis Wimgate Knt one of his Majesties of the peace for the said County the 26 day of June Anno Dni 1682 This Informant sayth that one Sunday the 14th day of May last past she this Informant put her child to bed with two peeces of Gold about her necke which she wore for the Kings Evill in the same chamber where one Richard Smith lay, and in the morneing the said Richard Smyth was gon, and soe soone as the child awaked she felt for her gold (as she told her Mother) and mist it, and when she came downe to be made ready this Informant saw that the two peeces of Gold was gon, which being on a very Stronge Sattin Ribbion must needs be cutt off; And suspecting Smith to have stolen the Gold sent horse and man in persuit of him but could not then find him, but on the 13th of June Instant took him; And further sayth not.
