    Deposition:John Warren, Haynes, lab. 3 February 1682. Lost purse with 10s. 6d.; suspects Roger Wickesee. Edward Hill, Clapwell. Saw Rog.Wicksee thrust his hand under Will.Nerrin's coat. Oliver Spicer, Shefford, barber. Constable. Jn.Warren told him of theft of 10s. 6d. and pointed out R.Wicksee. R.W. resisted arrest and was put in the stocks. His companion Jn.Hull struck his guard and escaped, but was later captured. The Information of John Warren of Hawne in this County Labourer taken the 3d of Feb '81 before me John Ventris Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of Peace for this County This Informant being sworne sayd that he did loose his purse with 10s - 6 - 0 in it or thereabouts that day and Roger Wickesee beinge searcht he doeth believe that one smooth toopence was his but sayth that one toopence may be like another therefore will not sweare it is his and farther sayth not. Edward Hill of Clapwell beinge sworne sayth that he did see the sayd Roger Hicksees hands under Will Nerrin his Cote thrusting hym first one way then another, and keepinge eye constantly uppon hym, farther sayth not. John Ventris The Information of Oliver Spicer of Shefford Barber taken before me John Ventris Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of Peace for the County of Bedford Friday the 3d of Feb 1681. This Informant beinge sworne sayth that uppon Friday Feb 3d John Warren of Hawnes came to his house at Shefford he being Constable, and then told hym his pocket was that day pick in the market and had lost 10s - 6d a purse a key and a seale, the sayd Oliver Spicer askt him whoe he suspected he sayd he would shew hym thereuppon went out with hym and he shewed him one standing at Richard Stephens his doore lookinge on the Mountebanks and the said Spicer went and seized uppon hym to be a pickpockit the person apprehend did twice strike him and kickt hym for that the marks are yet to be seene whereuppon the said Spicer charging some to assist hym the carried hym to Edward Harris his house where he was informed he had a Companion, and beleiving then to be dangerous Rogues and full of beare he set them in the Stocke but Roger Wicksee who was first apprehended Resisted and struck the assistance and endeavoringe to get his foot out of the stockes pulld of his shooe and out of it dropt a good deale of money which was found amongst the croud of people afterward he brought him before Mr Ventris but uppon the way, John Hull, Wickees companyon struck up one Cottons Heeles whoe was his guard and attempted to Runn away, next morninge the purse with the key was found behind Edward Harris his gate the Inn where they lay and farther sayth not.
