    Deposition: Mary, w. of Thos.Read, Northill. Denies thefts from Hen.Killworth's shop. Sugar and tobacco she sold was bought at Hitchin. The examinacon of Mary the wife of Thomas Read of Northill in the County of Bedd taken the 25th day of May in the xxxiijth yeare of the raigne of our Sovraigne Lord King Charles the second Annoque dni 1681 before Samuel Bedford Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for the County of Bedd Sayth that she did not steale any sugar, tobaccoe or money from Henery Killworth of Northill, att any tyme but Confesseth she hath sould nine pounds of sugar to one Judith Jennings att two severall tymes for threepence the pound, which sugar she sayth she bought att Hitchin, but of whom shee knowes not. And that shee did sell to Robert Bodington one pound of Tobaccoe in the leafe and halfe a pound to George Lancaster of Northill, and bought hir tobaccoe of the same man she bought hir sugar of att Hitchin.
