    Deposition:Edward Waterton, Studham, lab., William Mayles, same, smith. The Information of Edward Waterton of Studham labourer, & William Mayles Smith & Farrier, of the same taken before me William Duncombe one of his Majesties Justices of the peace for the County abovesd upon oath att Battlesden, this 20th day of January 1680/81. These Informants say, that they did heare John Gurney commonly called Duff Gurney tell William Dormer (who had charged him with the felonious taking of 4 sheep the goods of his Master, & who finding a side of Mutton in the possession of the said Gurney att the Exchequer in Markett Street did tell the said Gurney that that side of Mutton was part of the aforesd sheep) that he could give a very good account how he came by that Mutton, for that it was part of 2 sheep he had bought of Ralph Shaws man of Battlesden & further say not.
