    Deposition:Grace Day, Upper Guernall (Stafford), spinster. 23 July 1678. Confesses burglary from house of James Janes. The Examination of Grace Day late of Upper Guernall in the County of Stafford spinster taken before Sir Francis Wingate Knt and William Duncombe Esqr two of his Majesties Justices of the peace for the County of Bedford the 23th day of July 1678. This Examinant sayth, that in the forenoone of this present day she being at Tilsworth in this County of Bedford went to the dwelling house of one James Janes with an intent to Beg Victualls and finding not anybody at home, and a Casement open, she got two Milking Stools one upon the other and went into the house, and from below Staires she tooke a Blew Apron, and went into an Upper roome and there tooke out of a Chest which she found unlockt a peece of darke coloured new Cloth, and out of a drawer in the same Chest she tooke halfe a duzzen Pewter Spoones and three coller Bands, one of them a laced one, and the other two plaine ones, and that she unbolted the back doore and went her way, and hid the goods she had taken in the Beanes, and was comeing back againe to the house, but perceived the folkes of the house were come home, and therefore went and hid herselfe in the Beanes; and further this Examinant sayth not.
