Deposition:Thomas Barber, Barton, 19 March 1679.
More evidence of highwaymen King and Clayton, for pros. of Geo. Sole and Ric. Rolph. The Information of Thos. Barber of Barton in the County of Bedford taken before me G. Abbott etc. the 19th Day of March 1678 at Stepingley ... against John Dennis of Gravenhurst upon Oath This Informant sayth that about last Christmas was a twelve month he see three men at the Swan at Flitwick and that after they were taken the sayd Dennis told the Informant that ther names were King, Clayton and Sheffeild, and that they had Robbed two men beyond Dunstable and taken ten pound from them but Gave it Back again and likewise A Coach below Bedford and taken Jewely and likewise often told this Informant that if Mr. Rhodes of Flitwick knew what he Knew, Mr. Rhodes would give him ten pounds He told him farther that formerly ther was a dinner at one Richard Rolfe's Hous where King and Clayton Quarreld and fought. And that at another time King and Clayton and Sheffeild would have had him (vist. Dennis) Gone Along with them, and more this Informant sayth not.
