    Copy (n.d. but watermarked 1844) Probate of the will dated 12 May (12 May 1836) 1836 of George Gray of Luton, carpenter. X215/5/5 Gives and devises ... (a)4 messuages or tenements with the buildings, gardens and appurtenances belonging thereto and the piece or parcel of ground lying behind the same in Old Barton Road, Luton. (b)close, piece or parcel of land called Five Acres in Stopsley, Luton. ..... and all his other real estate to his wife Sophia Gray for life if she shall so long continue a widow and unmarried (she keeping the messuages and buildings in good tenantable repair, remainder to his brothers in law John Higgins and Thomas Hyde upon trust for sale (the net monies arising therefrom to be deemed part of the residue of his personal estate). Gives and bequeathes his household goods and furniture, plate, china and linen, ready money, debts, stock in trade and other personal estate to JH/TH upon trust to permit SG to use the household goods and furniture, plate, china and linen during her life and, after her decease, to divide the same amongst his 3 children George Gray, William Gray and Mary Gray in equal shares and proportions; and upon trust to convert the rest of his personal estate into money and invest the same (with the money arising from the sale of his real estate) on real or government security and pay and apply the interest or dividends thereof to SG for life if she shall continue a widow and unmarried and, after her decease or marriage, upon trust to pay divide or transfer all his personal estate and effects and the money arising from the sale of his real estate, subject to an annuity of £10 to SG for life in case she remarries, to and amongst his 3 children in equal shares and proportions at their respective ages X215/5/5 of 21 years (the survivor(s) to benefit in the event of death of any of them sans issue). Directs that if any of the children are under 21 years at the time of SG's death or remarriage, then the interest or dividends of his/her share of the trust monies shall be applied for his/her benefit during his/her minority. Constitutes and appoints SG/JH/TH executors Witnesses : Edward C Williamson, Thomas Erskine Austin and John Wright. Probate in the Archdeaconry Court of Bedford by SG and TH, 5 June 1837.
