    Mary, w. of Roger Jenkins, Chalgrave. She kept the lost drove sheep in her orchard, hoping for the reward. Offered to sell it to Wm. Page only in jest. The examination of Mary Jenkins the wife of Roger Jenkins of Chalgrave in the County aforesd taken before me Wm Dumcombe one of his Maties Justices of the peace in the County aforesd the 25 December 1677 This examinat saith that there was in hir orchard about a month since a greate sheep reddld on the back as she thinks & that it was there for about a fortnight att times that it usd to goe into Teboth feilds & that she did twice drive it into hir orchard from thence supposing it to be a lost drove sheep & hopeing to be rewarded for the care she tock of it. That she did indeed offer it to sale to Wm Page for 18s, but if he would have given it hir she would not have sold the sheep to him for she was but in jest sayth she knows not where the sheep is nor when it went out of that ground and farther saith not.
