Title
Deposition: John Gurny, Hockliffe, butcher. 26 December 1677. Denies that sheep he saw in Rog.Jenkins' orchard (let to J.G. for grazing sheep) was his, or that he ever said it was. The examination of John Gurney of the towne of Hockliff in the County aforesd Butcher taken before me Wm Duncombe one of his Maies Justices of the peace in the County aforesd this 26th of December 1677. This examinat saith, that he does hire the orchard of Rogr Jenkins & does often put sheep into it. That he did about a month since see in that ground a long while sheep (a drove one as he supposes) riddled on the backe with a marke on the near buttock, alone for about a weekes time denys ever to have told Edward Cole that it was his own sheep, yet afterward confesses he did, But then with many imprecations denys agen ever to have sd such a word sais his son saw the sheep severall times in that ground, & that the reason why he litt the sheep goe so long in his ground was because Mary Jenkins desird him to litt it alone for she would take care of it & further sauth not W Duncombe
