    Deposition: Samuel Smith, alias Allen, Sutton, butcher. Confesses that he and JohnSimpson stole ram out of grounds of Charles Baynton, intending to kill it and sell it at Royston Market. They also stole 2 lambs out of a pasture and killed them. The examinacon of Samuel Smith als Allen of Sutton in the county of Bedd Butcher, taken before Samuel Bedford Esqr one of his Maties Justices of the Peace for the County of Bedd, the two & twentieth day of May in the xxixth yeare of the Raigne of our Sovraigne Lord King Charles the second Annoque Dni 1677. Sayth that on Sonday night last being the 20th of this instant May hee and one John Simpson of Dunton in the sd County of Bedd Butcher did goe into the grounds of Charles Baynton in the parish of St Neotts in the County of Huntingdon & steale & Carry away One Ramme of the sd Charles Baynton & brought it that night to his owne house in Sutton & intended this day to have killed it & sould it att Royston markett tomorrow, if they had not been apprehended, And further sayth that hee & the sd John Simpson did on Thursday night last steale two Lambes out of a Pasture neare Toseland in the sd County of Huntingdon & brought them home, and hee killed one of them & the sd John Simpson the other of them & sould some of it & did eate the rest.
