    Christopher Webb, Chalgrave, yeoman. Wife of Thomas Meakes, on hearing of arrest of Thomas Morgan for theft of horse, said 'she doubted it might be true for he had told her husband that one of his brothers had sold a horse in Smithfield....' The Informacon of Christopher Webb of Chalgrave in the County of Bedford yeoman taken upon Oath before me Sr John Duncombe Knt one of his Maties Justices of the peace for the said County of Bedford the 15th day of June Anno Dni 1677 This Informt sayth, that yesterday being the 14th day of this instant June, he was desired by Thomas Morgan to goe into Buckinghamshire to one Thomas Meakes to tell him his Mare was seized on as felons goods and that if he would have her he must come and claime her, And this informant comeing to the house of the said Meakes found a poore woman washing, of whom he enquired whether such a young man as Thomas Morgan had not beene there, who told him that he had been there on Whitson Munday last, and this Informt asking her how he came thither, she told him on foot; she then called her Mistres who sayd that her husband had lent Thomas Morgan his Mare and that the sayd Morgan was to retourne the Mare by the Carryer, or if he sold her to retourne the money; And this Informt telling the wife of the said Thomas Meakes that the said Thomas Morgan was taken and seized upon suspition of stealeing a horse, she answered she doubted it might be true for he had told her husband, that one of his Brothers had sold a horse in Smithfeild, and that his Brother haveing left the Saddle and Bridle with him he the said Morgan would send them downe to her husband Thomas Meakes; And this Informt pressing the said Meakes to speake the truth, he reply'd, well make noe more words of it, but what my wife has sayd is true: And further this Informt deposeth not.
