    Deposition: Ralph Smith, Bedford, draper. 14 October 1675. William Smythes asked R.S. why his wife would not buy materials from wife. in payment of debt. 'I would not sell them butt my Wife-- he said was a hard austear woman and would not afoard him money to suply his necessarie station.---And further he said hee had the said stuffs in swapp for a horse.' The information of Mr Ralph Smith of the towne of Bedford draper taken before me William Beckett major upon oath the fourteenth day of October Ao Dm 1675 This informant saieth that Mr William Smythes of the towne of Bedford inholder the sixth or seventh day of this instant October came to him the said informant and said I desier to know the reason why your wife meaning Mrs Sarah Smith would not bye the stuffs I offered hir to sell And further said Mrs Smith neede not feare they ware stoalen for I care not who knowes how I came by them I would not sell them, but my wife meaning Mrs Smythes hee said was a hard austear woman and would not afoard him money to suply his necessarie station so that hee offered them to sell as hee said to pay part of a debte hee owed to this informant and to have sum money to himselfe the which debte his wife would bee angry if shee should see itt in his book; And further said hee had the said stuffs in swapp for a horse and further saieth not.
