  • Title
    Footbridge over the river Ouse at Bedford. Suspension bridge opening ceremony. The bridge is still in scaffolding and is covered with men and children. Printed on the mount 'Span of Bridge, 100 feet. Width of footway, 7 feet. clear Waterway in centre of River, 15 feet. Two Arched Ribs, consisting of four Angles, 4 in by 3 in by 7/16 in, 1 foot wide, 1 foot 6 in deep at centre. Braces - Angles, 3 in by 3 in by 5/16 in and 21/2 in by 21/2 in by 5/16; flats, 3 in by 5/16 in and 21/2 in by 5/16 in. Engineer, Mr John J Webster, M.Inst. CE, 25 Lord Street, Liverpool. Constructed by Messrs E Page & co, Victoria and Bedford Iron Works, Bedford. Opened by the Marquess of Tavistock, 11th July 1888 in the third year of the Mayoralty of Joshua Hawkins Esq JP.
