    Deposition: Joane Pearce, St. Georges, Surrey. 4 July 1670. After Woburn Fair was searched by Constable who found in the crown of her hat 2 pieces of white bone lace, which Richard Smallbones declares to be his. She says she saw them drop out of a woman's coat. The examination of Joane Pearce late living in Long Lane in St. Georges parrish in the county of Surrey taken before St. John. Chernocke Bart, one of his majesties J.Ps on the 4th of July 1670 This examinant saith that shee came from Long Lane in the County of Surrey on Munday being the twenty seaventh day of June last past and came along the road from London to St. Albones and from thence shee came to Wooburne faire where shee saith her husband promised to meet her and shee came thither about two A clocke in the afternoone and about an houre after shee was goeing out of towne but shee being stopped by the Constable of Wooburn upon suspition and the sd, constable searching of her for certains goods that was taken away from himselfe and others found about her and in the crowne of her hat two pieces of white bone lace which shee confesseth the which the deponent Richard Smallbones ownes to be his which he had lost that day, the which sd. lace this examinant saith shee saw it drop out of a womans coate and she tooke it up and further this Examinant saith not.
